Karol G @ Rose Bowl Pasadena

The Colombian-raised singer from Medellin was in town for her sold-out back-to-back shows over the weekend. In celebrating her latest album release, Mañana Será Bonito, the singer brought a lot of energy and enthusiasm to both of her sold-out shows. On her Saturday show – she brought the pyro, clouds, and the sharks to the stage. As her sold-out back-to-back shows brought an estimated 120,000 fans in total.

In her footsteps, there have been a steady follow of other Colombian-raggaeton singers that have made their own names in the mainstream radios in the past years. Such names including J Balvin, Juanes, Maluma, among others. The mainstream audience in the states have longed appreciated the music genre for close to a decade. In Karol G’s situation, there were plenty of artist support to help pave her way to stardom.

In her music discography, her breakthrough song was in 2017 with Bad Bunny called “Ahora Me Llama.” She lent her supporting vocals in other tunes including “Lo Que Siento por Ti,” “Peligrosa,” “Deséame Suerte,” among others. And after her premier album, “Unstoppable,” in 2017 and four studio albums later, she has had many infamous songs on the radio that feature other singers/producers including Tiesto (“Dont Be Shy”), Anuel AA (“Location”), Nicki Minaj (“Tusa”), as examples.

There is no secret that she has a fascination with Tex-Mex Tejano music as she was heavily influenced by Selina Quintanilla while singing the tune “Mi Ex Tenía Razón,” for which takes a stance on moving on from her real-life ex and moving on to something more healthy and fluid. Her influence is well-documented that she also has a tattoo of Selina on her arm.

A completely different vibe from her 2022 ‘Strip Love’ tour and with her current ‘Mañana Será Bonito’ tour. Perhaps it was the venue change (from indoors inside Crypto Arena to outdoor at Rose Bowl). Or the fact that this tour was her first stadium tour. The crowds enjoyed the show. Morgan Freeman provided the color commentary during several video (concert breaks) during the show. And Karol G explained to the audience that “Many years ago, when I was at home, watching all of my favorite artists perform live..I would ask myself how I was going to get there. And I know they call me a crybaby, but I don’t care..”

And the crowd chanting didn’t stop once they were out the doors. Almost reminiscent of the crowd singing after a Taylor Swift show or a Rosalia concert. What a vibe! Perhaps one should visit Medellin and see how life and music are interconnected.
